Dental Crowns + Bridges
Improve the appearance of your teeth and restore their strength and functionality
Dental bridges and crowns are prosthetics that resemble natural teeth and restore strength to the mouth by supporting damaged teeth and closing gaps where teeth are missing.
Our practitioners at Karratha Dental Care have many years of experience fitting crowns and bridges to permanently strengthen your teeth and prevent serious oral health problems from occurring in the future.
What are dental crowns?
Tooth crowns are placed over weak, damaged or decayed teeth to improve their appearance and restore their strength and functionality.
Crowns are designed to be indistinguishable from natural teeth once fitted. They may be made of metal, porcelain or resin.
When are crowns needed?
Dental crowns can be used to:
Restore damaged, worn, misshapen or discoloured teeth
Protect weak or cracked teeth from further damage
How are crowns fitted?
Before fitting a dental crown, our dentists prepare the underlying tooth by removing any of the outer surface that remains. They will then take an impression that will be used to manufacture the crown and will insert a temporary crown for you to wear until your next visit.
When the crown is ready, your dentist will bond it into place. The crown should look and feel like a normal tooth, and when properly maintained it will last around 10 years before it needs to be replaced.
What are dental bridges?
Tooth bridges are inserted where teeth are missing, both to improve the appearance of the mouth and to support the surrounding teeth.
Bridges are usually permanent fixtures. Fixed bridges are artificial teeth anchored by crowns placed over the neighbouring teeth, while resin bonded or cantilever bridges may be used to replace one or more front teeth.
When are bridges needed?
Tooth bridges may be fitted for cosmetic reasons, but they can also help to:
Strengthen surrounding teeth
Overcome problems with biting, chewing and speech
Prevent food from getting trapped in gaps and causing tooth decay
Prevent teeth from shifting and crowding
How are bridges fitted?
During your first visit, your dentist will prepare the teeth on either side of the gap ready for crowns to be fitted. An impression of the area will be taken, and you will be provided with a temporary bridge and crowns to wear until your next appointment.
When your cosmetic bridge is ready, your dentist will bond it into place along with the surrounding crowns.
